Math / Astronomy High Sierra Camps
Summer 2008 Camps
Tuition: $ 1500.00 / week
1 to 4 week sessions starting July 6
What does my tuition cover?
Tuition is $1500 USD per weekly session and covers complete room and and board.* Transportation is provided if needed from and to Reno Tahoe or LAX on the Sunday of the camper's arrival and departure. We pick you up at the airline gate and see you off, and we wait if the airline arrival or departure is late. Best to arrive before 4 pm at the airport or please contact us if the airlines do not cooperate so special arrangements can be made.
Rooming is in large houses of the Mammoth Lakes ski resort with beds and all amenities. All activities are closely supervised.
*Board is all three meals a day plus all drinks and snacks. We are sensitive to special dietary needs and requests, and otherwise offer healthy and organic meals. Drinks and snacks are always available.
The tuition also covers: the math astronomy and science sessions, and also sessions on environmental science of the high sierras as part of the global ecosystem; sessions for day hikes on the John Muir Trail and surrounding environs; sessions for returning students which offer the opportunity to advance further in their work through supervised research. Some planned day light hiking trips to Yosemite are on the menu to see Vernal Falls and Yosemite Valley. Mono Lake and its unusual ecology are also visited and the panorama of the Sierras from Mono Lake is worth bringing your camera for.
What does my tuition not cover?
Some students may choose math SAT advanced tutorial one-on-one training from an expert, including assessment and specialized training. This is by advanced request. Please contact us if you are interested.
Some students may want spending money in the town of Mammoth Lakes. We will walk through the town occasionally, but we do not encourage or discourage the students from buying souvenirs.
Camp insurance is encouraged since we do not give refunds after spring.
Medical insurance is encouraged for the student, just in case they need it. A world-class day and full use medical facility is less than 5 minutes away.
What to bring:
Bring a light backpack, sturdy shoes, athletic shoes or hiking shoes, and plenty of socks, also hats and sunscreen for every day. The UV in Mammoth is greater than at sea level. We will remind you to use sunscreen. Bring chapstick. Bring standard summer clothes but also bring sweaters, hoodies or a jacket for the cool evenings. Bring your toothbrush and toothpaste, floss. We provide linens, towels, shampoo and soap. Don't forget meds if any, and please let us know ahead of time. Bring your camera and your cellphone, but cellphones can only be used during breaks or free time. Tell us of any allergies ahead of time.
